How the EIS allowance is worked out
- Assumed wage = your insured monthly wage, up to RM6,000.
- Job Search Allowance = 80%, 50%, 40%, 40%, 30% and 30% of it in months 1 to 6.
- Period: 3 to 6 months, set by PERKESO from your contributions.
- Early Re-employment Allowance = 50% of the unpaid allowance (25% for job loss before 1 October 2026).

EIS benefits and conditions (2026)
- Eligibility: at least 12 contributions in the 24 months before job loss for a first claim; claim within 60 days at LINDUNG KERJAYA and register on MYFutureJobs.
- Covered: retrenchment, VSS or MSS, business closure, constructive dismissal and resignation because of harassment, threats or dangerous orders.
- Not covered: resignation, dismissal for misconduct and retirement.
- From 1 October 2026: training fees up to RM7,000 with RM30 a day; Mobility Assistance Allowance of RM1,000 for a new job over 100 km from home within 12 months of the last allowance payment.

How long does the Job Search Allowance last?
3 to 6 months, depending on how many contributions you have made. The first claim needs at least 12 monthly contributions in the 24 months before you lost your job. PERKESO confirms your period when it approves the claim.
What is the maximum EIS allowance?
Wages count up to the RM6,000 insured ceiling, so the first month is at most RM4,800 and 6 months about RM 16,200.00. PERKESO may use a banded assumed wage slightly below your actual pay.
What changed for EIS from 1 October 2026?
For job loss on or after 1 October 2026, the Early Re-employment Allowance rises from 25% to 50% of the unpaid allowance, training fees rise to RM7,000 with RM30 a day, and a new RM1,000 Mobility Assistance Allowance helps if your new job is over 100 km from home.
What is the Early Re-employment Allowance?
A lump sum when you find a new job before your allowance ends: 50% of the allowance still unpaid. On RM3,000, re-employed after month 2, you get RM 2,100.00 on top of RM3,900 already paid, RM 6,000.00 in all.
Who can claim EIS?
Employees who lose their job through retrenchment, a voluntary or mutual separation scheme, business closure or constructive dismissal. Resignation, dismissal for misconduct and retirement are not covered. Claim within 60 days and register on MYFutureJobs.
How much is the EIS contribution?
0.2% of wages from the employee and 0.2% from the employer, up to RM11.90 each a month at the RM6,000 ceiling.
