Annual Leave Calculator Malaysia

Under the Employment Act you get at least 8, 12 or 16 days of paid annual leave a year (under 2, 2 to 5, and 5 or more years of service), pro rata in the year you join or leave. Leaving on 30 June after 4 years gives 12 × 6 ÷ 12 = 6 days; with 3 taken, the other 3 are paid RM 450.00 on RM3,900 a month. Enter your dates below.

How annual leave is worked out

  1. Entitlement by service: 8 days (under 2 years), 12 days (2 to under 5) or 16 days (5 or more).
  2. Pro rata in a part year: entitlement × completed months ÷ 12.
  3. Rounding: under half a day is dropped; half a day or more counts as a full day.
  4. Unused leave on leaving × ordinary rate of pay (monthly wages ÷ 26).

Frequently asked questions

How many days of annual leave do I get in Malaysia?

At least 8 days a year with under 2 years of service, 12 days with 2 to under 5 years and 16 days with 5 years or more, under section 60E of the Employment Act 1955. Your contract can give more but not less.

How is pro rata annual leave calculated?

Entitlement × completed months ÷ 12, with a fraction under half a day dropped and half a day or more counted as a day. Joining on 1 April with an 8-day entitlement gives 8 × 9 ÷ 12 = 6 days for that year.

How much annual leave do I get when I resign?

Leave for the completed months of your final year. Leaving on 30 June after 4 years with a 12-day entitlement gives 12 × 6 ÷ 12 = 6 days, less any days already taken.

Is unused annual leave paid when I leave?

Usually yes: leave earned but not taken when the contract ends is paid at the ordinary rate of pay (monthly wages ÷ 26), unless you take it during the notice period; dismissal for misconduct is an exception. 3 unused days on RM3,900 a month is RM 450.00.

How many days of sick leave do I get?

14 days a year with under 2 years of service, 18 days with 2 to under 5 years and 22 days with 5 years or more, plus 60 days of hospitalisation leave a year when hospitalisation is needed, under section 60F.

How long is maternity and paternity leave?

Maternity leave is 98 consecutive days. Married fathers get 7 consecutive days of paid paternity leave per confinement, up to five confinements, after 12 months with the same employer.

Does the Employment Act cover employees earning above RM4,000?

Yes. From 1 January 2023 the Act covers all employees regardless of wages, and the annual, sick, maternity and paternity leave rules apply to everyone; only some overtime, rest day and termination benefit provisions are limited to those earning up to RM4,000.
