How fuel cost is calculated
- Litres needed = distance (km) × consumption (L/100 km) ÷ 100. If you know km per litre: distance ÷ km per litre.
- Fuel cost = litres × price per litre. Add tolls if any.
- Cost per km = consumption ÷ 100 × price per litre.
- Sharing = total ÷ number of people.
- BUDI95: litres in the month up to the quota at RM1.99, the rest at the unsubsidised RON95 price.
Example: 350 km at 7 L/100 km = 24.5 litres. That costs RM 48.76 with BUDI95, RM 114.42 with unsubsidised RON95, RM 126.18 with RON97 and RM 129.11 with Peninsular diesel.

- BUDI95: RON95 at RM1.99 a litre for Malaysians with a valid MyKad and driving licence, up to 300 litres a month from 1 September 2026 (200 litres from April to August 2026). E-hailing drivers can get an extra quota.

Check eligibility and your remaining quota on the official BUDI MADANI portal or your petrol station app.
How to use less fuel
- Cruise at 80–100 km/h on highways; consumption rises sharply above 110 km/h.
- Keep tyres at the pressure on the door label; soft tyres raise consumption.
- Remove extra weight and unused roof racks.
- RON97 is only worth it if your owner's manual calls for it; most cars are designed for RON95.

Frequently asked questions
What is the fuel price in Malaysia this week?
For the week of 8–14 October 2026: RON95 under BUDI95 RM 1.99 a litre, unsubsidised RON95 RM 4.67, RON97 RM 5.15, Peninsular diesel RM 5.27 and Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan diesel RM 2.15 a litre. The Ministry of Finance sets the prices every week and this page updates from data.gov.my.
How do I calculate the fuel cost of a trip?
Multiply the distance by the car's consumption in litres per 100 km, divide by 100, then multiply by the price per litre. A 350 km trip in a car using 7 L/100 km needs 24.5 litres: RM 48.76 with BUDI95 RON95, RM 114.42 with unsubsidised RON95 or RM 126.18 with RON97.
What is the fuel cost per km?
For a car using 7 litres per 100 km, fuel costs 13.9 sen per km with BUDI95 RON95 and 36.1 sen per km with RON97 at this week's prices. The formula is litres per 100 km ÷ 100 × price per litre.
How do I measure my car's fuel consumption?
Fill the tank to full and reset the trip meter. At the next full fill-up, divide the litres added by the kilometres driven and multiply by 100. For example, 36 litres after 450 km is 8 litres per 100 km, or 12.5 km per litre.
What is the BUDI95 monthly quota?
300 litres a month for eligible Malaysians from 1 September 2026, at RM1.99 a litre. The quota was cut to 200 litres from April 2026 and raised back by the Ministry of Finance. Litres above the quota are charged at the unsubsidised RON95 price (RM 4.67 this week).
How much does 2,000 km of driving a month cost in fuel?
In a car using 7 L/100 km, 2,000 km needs 140 litres, which costs RM 278.60 with BUDI95 RON95 because it is within the 300-litre quota. At 5,000 km (350 litres), 50 litres are over the quota and the cost is RM 830.50.
When are new fuel prices announced?
The Ministry of Finance announces weekly retail prices on Wednesday and they apply from Thursday to the following Wednesday. BUDI95 RON95 (RM1.99) and Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan diesel are fixed, while unsubsidised RON95, RON97 and Peninsular diesel follow market prices.
