How sizes are worked out
- Shoe last = foot length + 1.7 cm (adults) or + 1.2 cm (children).
- UK adult = 3 × last (inches) − 25; UK kids = 3 × last − 12.
- EU = 1.5 × last (cm); US men = UK + 1; US women = UK + 2.
- Mondopoint = foot length in mm.

Tips for choosing a size
- Measure in the afternoon, when feet are largest, wearing the socks you will use.
- Between two sizes? Take the larger, especially for sports and school shoes.
- The cm on a shoe box is a size code, not a foot length.
- Wide feet: pick a wide fit; width is measured across the widest part of the foot.

How do I find my shoe size from my foot length?

What UK size is EU 42?
About UK 8 and US men 9 by the standard formula. Nike and ASICS put UK 8 at EU 42.5, while adidas and New Balance put it at EU 42, so check the brand's chart.
What is the difference between US men's and women's sizes?
US women is usually UK + 2 and US men UK + 1, so a US women's size is about 1.5 to 2 sizes above US men's for the same foot. Nike uses UK + 2.5 and adidas UK + 1.5 for women.
How do I measure my foot correctly?
Stand on paper against a wall in the afternoon wearing the socks you will use, mark the heel and longest toe, measure both feet and use the longer. Leave about a thumb's width of room at the toe.
How do children's shoe sizes work?
UK children's sizes start at 0 and run to 13.5, then continue as adult UK 1. A 17.4 cm foot is usually UK 10 kids or EU 28. Recheck a child's size every few months.
What is Mondopoint?
The ISO 9407 sizing system that gives the foot length in millimetres, for example 262 for a 26.2 cm foot. It is used for ski boots, military footwear and by some Asian brands.
Why is my size different between brands?
Each brand uses its own lasts and charts, so the same size can differ by up to half a UK or US size (about one EU size). The chart of the brand you are buying is always the main reference.
