CGPA Calculator

Your CGPA is the credit-weighted average of your semester SGPAs: multiply each SGPA by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits. The four example semesters below give a CGPA of 8.27. Enter your own SGPAs, or work out a GPA from course grades on India's 10-point or Malaysia's 4.00 scale.

How to calculate CGPA

  1. Find each semester's SGPA and credits on your grade cards.
  2. Multiply each SGPA by that semester's credits.
  3. Add the results, then divide by the total number of credits.

The same method gives a semester GPA from course grades: multiply each course's grade point by its credits, add them up and divide by the total credits.

Worked example

Two semesters: SGPA 8.0 over 20 credits and SGPA 9.0 over 25 credits. (8.0 × 20) + (9.0 × 25) = 160 + 225 = 385. Divide by 45 credits: CGPA 8.56. A simple average would give 8.50, because it ignores that the second semester carried more credits.

Grade point scales

Letter grades and points vary between universities. If your grade card lists different points, use the SGPA to CGPA calculator with the SGPAs printed on it.

Frequently asked questions

How is CGPA calculated from SGPA?

Multiply each semester's SGPA by that semester's total credits, add the results, and divide by the total credits of all semesters. For example, SGPAs of 8.0 over 20 credits and 9.0 over 25 credits give (160 + 225) ÷ 45 = 8.56. If every semester has the same credits, this equals the simple average of the SGPAs.

What is the difference between SGPA, CGPA and GPA?

SGPA is the grade point average for one semester. CGPA is the cumulative average across all semesters completed so far, weighted by credits. GPA is the general term, often used for a single term in Malaysia and elsewhere.

Can I calculate CGPA without credits?

Yes. Leave every credit box empty and the calculator takes the simple average of your SGPAs. This matches the credit-weighted CGPA only when all semesters carry the same credits, so use credits when you have them.

What are the grade points on the 10-point scale?

Under the UGC choice-based credit system, O (Outstanding) is 10, A+ is 9, A is 8, B+ is 7, B is 6, C is 5, P (Pass) is 4, and F (Fail) and Ab (Absent) are 0. Some universities use different letters, so check your grade card.

What are the grade points on the Malaysian 4.00 scale?

Malaysian public universities commonly use A = 4.00, A− = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B− = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, C− = 1.67, D+ = 1.33, D = 1.00 and E or F = 0. Some universities, such as UiTM, also award A+ at 4.00.

How do I convert my CGPA to a percentage?

Use the CGPA to percentage converter on this site. It applies the formula your university publishes, such as CGPA × 9.5 for CBSE or (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 for VTU, AKTU, MAKAUT and SPPU engineering.
