How the EPF dividend is calculated

EPF works out dividend on your daily balance and credits it once a year, after the rate is announced (usually in February or March).

  • Money that stays in your account the whole year earns the full rate: RM100,000 at 6.15% earns RM6,150.
  • Each month's contribution earns only for the rest of the year. January's contribution earns about eleven months, December's almost nothing until the next year.
  • Dividend is credited to Akaun Persaraan, Sejahtera and Fleksibel on each account's own balance.

This calculator follows the same method month by month, then repeats it for every year until your chosen age, raising your salary each year.

Akaun Persaraan, Sejahtera and Fleksibel

Since 11 May 2024, every monthly contribution is split three ways:

  • Akaun Persaraan (75%) for retirement, withdrawable from age 55.
  • Akaun Sejahtera (15%) for approved withdrawals such as housing, education and health.
  • Akaun Fleksibel (10%) that you can withdraw at any time.

On RM1,000 of total monthly contributions, RM750 goes to Persaraan, RM150 to Sejahtera and RM100 to Fleksibel. Withdrawing from Fleksibel reduces both your balance and the dividend it would have earned.

Frequently asked questions

What is the EPF dividend for 2025?

EPF declared 6.15% for 2025 for both conventional and Shariah savings, announced on 28 February 2026. It was slightly lower than 6.30% for 2024. The average for 2016–2025 is about 5.88% for conventional savings.

How is the EPF dividend calculated?

EPF calculates dividend on your daily balance and credits it once a year. Money that was in your account all year earns the full rate, while each monthly contribution earns only for the part of the year after it arrived. For example, RM100,000 held all year at 6.15% earns RM6,150.

How are my contributions split between the three accounts?

Since 11 May 2024, monthly contributions go 75% to Akaun Persaraan (retirement), 15% to Akaun Sejahtera (housing, education, health and other approved withdrawals) and 10% to Akaun Fleksibel (withdraw any time). Dividend is credited to each account on its own balance.

How much EPF savings do I need to retire?

EPF's Retirement Income Adequacy framework sets three levels at age 60 in today's prices: Basic RM390,000, Adequate RM650,000 and Enhanced RM1.3 million. The Basic level phases in at RM290,000 in 2026, RM340,000 in 2027 and RM390,000 from 2028. This calculator adjusts your projection for inflation before comparing it with these levels.

How much do I and my employer contribute?

Employees under 60 contribute 11% of wages. Employers add 13% for wages up to RM5,000 and 12% above that. The amounts follow the KWSP Third Schedule wage bands, so they can be a little higher than the straight percentage.

Can I increase my EPF savings?

Yes. You can choose a higher employee contribution rate through your employer, or make voluntary top-ups yourself through the KWSP app or i-Akaun. Use the more options section to see how much a top-up adds by retirement.

Is this an official EPF statement?

No. It is a projection based on the assumptions you choose. Future dividends are not guaranteed. Check your actual balances in the KWSP app or i-Akaun.
