How the ASB dividend is calculated
ASB units are fixed at RM1, so the rate in sen per unit is also the percentage return. ASNB works the distribution out in three steps:
- Take the lowest balance in each month from January to December.
- Add the twelve balances and divide by 12 to get the average monthly lowest balance.
- Multiply by the total rate (dividend + bonus). The amount is credited as new units around 1 January.
Because each month counts its lowest point, a withdrawal on the 30th wipes out that month's earnings on the money withdrawn, and a deposit on the 2nd waits a month to count. Save on the 1st and withdraw, if you must, on the 1st of the next month.

ASB financing: when it pays
With ASB financing, a bank lends you the money to buy units up front and holds the certificate as security. You pay interest on a falling loan balance, but earn the distribution on the full amount every year. It pays while the ASB rate stays above the break-even rate the calculator shows. The financing rate usually floats with the bank's base rate, and some banks require takaful (MRTT) cover, which adds to the cost.

Frequently asked questions
How is the ASB dividend calculated?
ASNB takes the lowest balance in each month of the year, averages the twelve figures and multiplies the average by the total rate (dividend plus bonus). With RM10,000 at the start of the year and RM200 saved every month after the 1st, the average is RM11,100 and the 5.75 sen rate pays RM638.25.
What is the ASB dividend for 2025?
5.75 sen per unit in total: a 5.20 sen dividend and a 0.55 sen bonus, announced on 19 December 2025 and credited as new units around 1 January 2026. It equals 2024's 5.75 sen. On RM10,000 held all year, that is RM575.
When is the ASB dividend for 2026 announced?
PNB usually announces the ASB distribution in the second half of December, and the units are credited around 1 January. The 2026 rate is not known yet; use the 5-year average (5.27%) for a cautious estimate.
Does money deposited mid-month earn dividend?
Not for that month. The dividend uses each month's lowest balance, so a deposit made after the 1st only counts from the following month. Depositing on the 1st, and not withdrawing during the month, earns the most.
What is the maximum ASB investment?
RM200,000 per person. The limit applies to what you put in; reinvested dividends can take the account above RM200,000 and keep earning.
Is ASB financing worth it?
It depends on the gap between the ASB rate and the financing rate. RM50,000 over 20 years at 4.25% costs RM309.62 a month and RM24,309 interest, while 5.75 sen a year earns RM57,500 in distributions, a net gain of about RM33,191. The financing rate is variable and the distribution is not guaranteed, so check the break-even rate the calculator shows.
How much will RM500 a month in ASB grow to in 10 years?
About RM78,300 at the 5-year average of 5.27%, from RM60,000 of savings, if every dividend is reinvested and deposits are made after the 1st of each month. Starting earlier matters more than the rate.
