Solar Calculator Malaysia 2026

Under Solar ATAP, solar energy you use yourself avoids the full tariff, while exported energy is credited at only 27.03 sen/kWh, up to what you import. A 6 kWp system on a 600 kWh-a-month home cuts the bill from RM 215.98 to RM 41.76, paying back in about 7.2 years. Enter your bill and system.

A 6 kWp system on a 600 kWh-a-month home. Exports above the month's imports are forfeited, so running loads in the daytime (air conditioning, washing machine, water heater) gives the best return.

How the solar bill is worked out

  1. Generation = kWp × yearly yield ÷ 12; self-use = generation × share used on site.
  2. Imports = use − self-use; exports = generation − self-use.
  3. Credit = the lowest of exports, imports and kWac × 5 hours × 30 days, at 27.03 sen/kWh.
  4. Bill = energy, capacity and network charges on imports − credit − EEI, plus AFA, retail charge, KWTBB and SST where they apply; never below zero.

Solar ATAP rules, 2026

  • Apply through a registered PV service provider on SEDA's eATAP portal; there is no quota or closing date.
  • No carry-over: credit not used in the billing month is forfeited, and a negative bill is set to zero.
  • 10-year contract: after that the system is for self-consumption only.
  • Strata homes (condominiums, apartments) are reported as not eligible.
  • Work out your TNB bill without solar with the TNB bill calculator.

Disclaimer: An estimate. Panel yield depends on roof direction, shading and weather, and how the EEI rebate treats exports is not published, so we use the more cautious reading. Get a written quote and yield estimate from a SEDA-registered installer.

Frequently asked questions

How much does solar save on a TNB bill?

For a 6 kWp system on a home using 600 kWh a month with 60% of the energy used on site, the bill falls from RM 215.98 to RM 41.76, saving RM 2,090.64 a year. The saving depends on how much solar energy you use during the day.

What is Solar ATAP?

The Energy Commission's rooftop solar scheme that replaced NEM 3.0 in Peninsular Malaysia from 1 January 2026. Exported energy is credited at the energy charge (27.03 sen/kWh) up to the amount you import that month; the rest is forfeited and not carried over.

What is the difference between Solar ATAP and NEM 3.0?

NEM 3.0 offset the energy, capacity and network charges and let credits roll over for 12 months. Solar ATAP offsets only the energy charge and has no carry-over, so using solar energy yourself in the daytime is worth more than exporting it.

What is the capacity limit for home solar?

Up to 5 kW on a single-phase connection and 15 kW on three phase. Going above needs a TNB connection confirmation check with a RM1,000 fee.

How much is the SuRIA Home rebate?

RM600 per kWac, at most RM3,000 (5 kWac), for TNB domestic customers whose system starts operating under Solar ATAP from 1 June to 31 December 2026, or until the 250 MW quota runs out.

How long is the payback for solar panels?

For the 6 kWp example at RM3,000 per kWp less the RM3,000 SuRIA rebate, the net cost is RM15,000 and the payback about 7.2 years. Enter your installer's quote for a real estimate.

Is there a tax relief for home solar?

No. The RM2,500 lifestyle relief covers EV chargers and composting machines, not solar panels. Capital allowances for solar are for businesses only.
