How this calculator works

  1. State rate: the minimum or fixed rate of the state where the nikah takes place, for anak dara or janda.
  2. Mas kahwin value: cash as is; gold = grams × fineness (0.999 or 0.916) × pure-gold price per gram; dinar = coins × 4.25 g × 0.917 × price per gram.
  3. Check: the value is compared with the state minimum.
  4. Wedding cost = mas kahwin + wang hantaran + gifts + (guests × catering per guest) + other + nikah fees; monthly saving = total ÷ months.

  • Islamic pre-marriage course: compulsory, RM80 to RM120 by state (RM100 in Selangor).
  • HIV screening: compulsory for Muslim applicants at a government clinic; the result is valid for 6 months.
  • Deferred mas kahwin: allowed and recorded as "hutang" on the nikah form; set a payment date.
  • Registration: marrying without permission or not registering can be fined up to RM1,000, 6 months' jail or both. In Selangor, register within 6 months.
  • Wang hantaran: a custom, not a pillar of the nikah. If you need to borrow, work out the instalment first with the personal loan calculator.
