Passport Photo Maker Malaysia
A Malaysian passport photo is 35 × 50 mm on a white background (413 × 591 pixels at 300 dpi). Take a photo with your phone and this tool removes the background, sizes the head, and gives you a MyOnline Passport JPG of 100–300 KB or a print sheet of 8 photos on 4R. If you are 4 or older, immigration takes your photo at the counter.

Malaysian passport photo rules
- Who needs to bring a photo: only children under 4 (a 35 × 50 mm print) and MyOnline Passport renewals (a 100–300 KB JPG). Applicants aged 4 and above are photographed at the immigration counter.
- Background: white.
- Clothing: dark coloured; a dark-coloured tudung that does not cover the forehead.
- Not allowed: spectacles, coloured contact lenses and hats.
- Face: facing forward, eyes open, mouth closed. Children under 4: face 25 to 30 mm.
Example: a MyOnline Passport renewal
Stand in front of a light wall near a window and have someone take the photo at eye level. Choose the MyOnline Passport size, keep the White background, and check the top of the head touches the first red line. Press Download JPG: the tool exports 827 × 1181 pixels and tunes the quality so the file lands between 100 and 300 KB, for example 180 KB, ready to upload.
How the tool works
- Remove the background: the MODNet AI model (Apache-2.0) makes a person mask in your browser.
- Find the head: the mask is scanned row by row from the top; the widest part is the head and the narrowest part below it the neck, so the chin lies between them.
- Size it: the photo is scaled so the head fills the official range (for example 25–30 mm of 50 mm) and centred.
- Export: 300 dpi for prints; for KB limits, the JPG quality is binary-searched until the file size fits.

Phone photo tips
- Use even daylight from the front; avoid shadows behind the head.
- Shoot from about 1.5 m and zoom in slightly so the face is not distorted.
- Print the 4R sheet at a photo shop or kiosk as a normal photo print, then cut along the grey lines.
- Just need a background removed for something else? Use Remove Background.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Malaysian passport photo size?
35 × 50 mm (width × height) on a white background, which is 413 × 591 pixels at 300 dpi. For children under 4 the face should measure 25 to 30 mm from chin to crown.
Do I need to bring a photo to the immigration office?
Not if you are 4 or older: the Immigration Department photographs you live at the counter. Your own photo is only needed for children under 4 (a 35 × 50 mm print) and for online renewal through MyOnline Passport.
What photo does MyOnline Passport need?
A JPG file between 100 and 300 KB with a white background. Choose the MyOnline Passport size here: the tool exports 827 × 1181 pixels and tunes the JPG quality so the file lands within 100 to 300 KB, and shows the file size after download.
Can I wear a tudung or glasses?
A tudung is allowed if it is a dark colour and does not cover the forehead. Spectacles, coloured contact lenses and hats are not allowed. Wear dark clothing, face forward, keep your eyes open and your mouth closed.
How many passport photos fit on 4R paper?
8 photos of 35 × 50 mm fit on 4R (4 × 6 inch) paper printed edge to edge, in 4 columns and 2 rows. On A4 with a 5 mm margin for home printers, 32 fit.
What sizes do other countries' visas use?
US 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm, head 25 to 35 mm), China 33 × 48 mm, Japan 35 × 45 mm, Schengen 35 × 45 mm, UK digital photos at least 600 × 750 pixels, Saudi eVisa 200 × 200 pixels (5 to 100 KB) and India e-Visa square (10 to 300 KB).
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The background is removed by an AI model downloaded to your browser (about 7 MB, once), and all processing happens on your device. The photo is never sent to our server.
