Malaysia Civil Service Pension Calculator
A Malaysian civil servant's pension is 1/600 × months of service × last salary, capped at 60% (360 months) and at least RM1,000 with 25 years' service. Retiring at 60 on a RM6,000 last salary after 395 months gives a pension of RM3,600.00 a month, a gratuity of RM177,750.00 and GCR of RM40,800.00. Enter your dates and salary for your own estimate.

Pension and gratuity by length of service (RM4,000 last salary)
| Months of service | Rate | Monthly pension | Gratuity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 (10 years) | 20% | RM800.00 | RM36,000.00 |
| 180 (15 years) | 30% | RM1,200.00 | RM54,000.00 |
| 240 (20 years) | 40% | RM1,600.00 | RM72,000.00 |
| 300 (25 years) | 50% | RM2,000.00 | RM90,000.00 |
| 360 (30 years) | 60% | RM2,400.00 | RM108,000.00 |
At 300 months, 1/600 × 300 × RM4,000 is RM2,000, above the RM1,000 minimum; the minimum only lifts the pension for last salaries under RM2,000 with 25 years or more.
JPA's official examples
- Last salary RM5,440.60, 386 months: pension capped at 360 months, 60% × RM5,440.60 = RM3,264.36 a month; gratuity 7.5% × RM5,440.60 × 386 = RM157,505.37 (gratuity has no month cap).
- Last salary RM2,203.56, 255 months: pension 1/600 × 255 × RM2,203.56 = RM936.51; no minimum because it is under 300 months; gratuity RM42,143.08.
- The default example above: born 15 June 1966, appointed 1 July 1993, retiring 15 June 2026 (395 months), RM6,000 salary and RM800 fixed allowances: pension RM3,600.00, gratuity RM177,750.00, GCR 180 ÷ 30 × RM6,800 = RM40,800.00, lump sum RM218,550.00.
How it is calculated
- Service = whole months from the appointment date to the day before retirement; at least 120 months (10 years).
- Pension = 1/600 × months (up to 360) × last salary; RM1,000 if lower and service is 300 months or more.
- Gratuity = 7.5% × all months × last salary.
- GCR = leave days (up to 180) ÷ 30 × (last salary + fixed allowances).
- When paid: gratuity and GCR on the retirement date; the pension from the retirement date or age 55 (appointed from 12 April 1991), whichever is later.

SSPA pension adjustment for pensioners (360 months, retired before December 2024)
| Last salary | Phase 1 (1/12/2024) | Phase 2 (1/1/2026) | Pension before → after |
|---|---|---|---|
| RM3,000.00 | RM3,240.00 | RM3,466.80 | RM1,800.00 → RM2,080.08 |
| RM5,000.00 | RM5,400.00 | RM5,778.00 | RM3,000.00 → RM3,466.80 |
| RM8,000.00 | RM8,640.00 | RM9,244.80 | RM4,800.00 → RM5,546.88 |
- Phase 1: last salary over RM3,000 +8%, under RM3,000 +RM240, JUSA +4%. At exactly RM3,000 both methods give RM240, so the answer is the same.
- Phase 2: +7%, JUSA +3%. Those who retired between 2 December 2024 and 1 January 2026 get Phase 2 only.
- Retired before 2013: JPA uses the "2012 equivalent last salary", not your actual last pay. Enter the figure from MyPesara.
- PKKP (for those who retired by 31 December 2022) is added after the formula.
Other rules to know
- Retirement age: compulsory at 60 for appointments from 1 January 2012; earlier appointees may have chosen 55, 56, 58 or 60. For the date and EPF ages, use the Retirement Age Calculator.
- Fixed allowances for GCR: include ITKA, ITP, ITK and ITJU; the cost-of-living aid (BSH) is normally not counted. Confirm with your HR unit.
- Derivative pension: if a pensioner dies, dependants qualify under the same formula; each widow or widower gets 2 shares and each child 1 share.
- Special payment: Budget 2027 announced RM750 for pensioners in 2027, paid in two instalments.

Frequently asked questions
How is a Malaysian civil servant's pension calculated?
Monthly pension = 1/600 × months of pensionable service × last salary, capped at 60% (reached at 360 months). In JPA's own example, a last salary of RM5,440.60 with 386 months gives RM3,264.36 a month, which is 60% because months beyond 360 do not count.
What is the minimum civil service pension?
RM1,000 a month for pensioners with at least 300 months (25 years) of service. Budget 2027 announced a rise to RM1,350 a month for civil service pensioners, armed forces veterans and derivative pension recipients, but the start date has not been announced.
How much is the retirement gratuity?
Gratuity = 7.5% × months of service × last salary, paid once on the retirement date, with no 360-month cap. JPA's examples: RM5,440.60 × 386 months gives RM157,505.37; RM2,203.56 × 255 months gives RM42,143.08.
How is the GCR leave cash award calculated?
GCR = accumulated rest leave days ÷ 30 × (last salary + fixed allowances), capped at 180 days from 1 January 2023. For example, 180 days with a last salary of RM6,000 and fixed allowances of RM800 gives RM40,800.00.
When is the pension paid if I take optional retirement?
Gratuity and GCR are paid on the retirement date, but the monthly pension only starts at 55 for officers appointed on or after 12 April 1991. For example, retiring at 45 with 252 months and a RM5,000 salary pays a gratuity of RM94,500.00 straight away and a pension of RM2,100.00 a month from 10 March 2035.
Do pensions still rise 2% a year?
No. On 27 June 2023 the Federal Court ruled the 2% yearly increase invalid, so pensions now follow pay revisions. Under SSPA the last salary rose 8% (or RM240 if under RM3,000) from 1 December 2024 and 7% from 1 January 2026; a RM5,000 last salary with 360 months went from RM3,000.00 to RM3,466.80.
Do new civil servants still get a pension?
The government decided that new permanent posts are no longer pensionable, and new appointments from 1 February 2024 are on contract, except the armed forces (ATM) and police (PDRM). Officers already in the pension scheme stay pensionable, and this calculator is for them.
